Ways to Worship for Kids!

Section 1: Ways to Worship

Lesson 1: Dancing

Bible Story:
The Arc of the Covenant was being brought back to Jerusalem.
The Arc was very special to many people, because they knew that if the Arc of the Covenant was in their city, then God was in their city, too! King David was so excited that it was in Jerusalem that he began to dance. He danced, and danced, and danced. All through the streets, all through the crowds of people, straight to the temple he danced.  Even when people laughed at him, he danced. He was so thankful to God that all he could do was …….. DANCE!!! One way we can show God we love Him and that He makes us happy is dancing!

Activity:
Sing this simple chorus to the tune of “Mary had a Little Lamb”:
This is how we praise the Lord, praise the Lord, praise the Lord.
This is how we praise the Lord, every single day.
As you sing change the words to “clap our hands, stomp our feet, dance for joy, and spin around.” With every chorus, do the corresponding action. Go fast and then slow. When you are finished, remind the children that dancing is one way we can praise God and show Him how much we love Him.

Puppet Skit
Teacher:  I asked a special friend to come in today to help me share with you how we can show God that we love Him. His/Her name is_________.  Can everybody say hello to ________?
Puppet:   (Puppet Crying)
Teacher:  What is wrong?
Puppet:  I love Jesus!
Teacher:  That’s good! Why are you so sad? Loving Jesus should make you happy!
Puppet:  Because…I can’t show Jesus how much I love Him. I can’t hug Him or kiss Him or make Him a card or….
Teacher:  Dance!
Puppet:  What?
Teacher:  You can dance! Dancing and Praising God is one way we can show God we love Him!
Puppet:  I like to dance (dancing silly).
Teacher:  Me, too. That reminds me of King David. He liked to dance too.
Puppet:  Can you tell me about Him?
Teacher:  I was just about to tell that story. Why don’t you stay and listen.  (If you are the puppet, pass it off to another worker)

Praise & Worship:
Turn on a fun praise tape or find someone to play an instrument. Find songs that are easy to dance to and the children will enjoy. Again, when you finish, remind the children that dancing is a way that we show God how much we love him.

Craft:  Dance Hoops
Supplies:

  • Metal or Plastic Hoops (Doesn’t matter the Size)
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors

Procedure:

Cut the ribbon to approximately 24 inches.  Take the Ribbon around the
Hoop, even it on both sides, and double knot tightly around the hoop.
Do this same procedure until there is enough ribbon (depends on the size
Of the hoop- 10 pieces each hoop is probably sufficient).

  • If you don’t have metal or plastic hoops available, you can use pipe-cleaners or something else and just twist it into a circle.
